So, what was the illusive planning notice all about?
Santander Bank wants to put an advertising board in front of their bank at the bottom of Victoria Street. Whilst most shops adhere to the not-unpleasant traditional A-boards, or those more-modern floppy thingamajigs that majestically float in the wind sail-like, Santandar wants a monolith.
If you recall one of the finest sci-fi movies of all time (albeit a tad slow at times), 2001 A Space Odyssey, you will understand the obvious use of the word monolith. Santander's monolith is 2.7m tall (that's 9 feet, 2 inches in old money)... and a foot thick.
